The Core Collection started as my own obsession.
Around five years ago I traveled to France for the first time, and very quickly I found the first of many, many antique dresses that would eventually turn into my own immense collection.
I loved so much about them: the fabric, the cross-stitched monograms, the flowing silhouettes. I loved that they were universally flattering. I loved that they were so old, made completely by hand, and yet so wearable and current.
I knew it was important to share them in a way that showed their inherent classic beauty while maintaining an emphasis on fashion, sustainability, incredible quality, and modern lifestyle.
As an artist, I am always seeking new ways of looking at existing things. I’ve often wondered, “how can we use color to change our perception?”. As a lover of nature, I go out to the mountains and pay extra attention to the flowers, the coincidence of complementary colors in these environments, the shadows playing and creating movement. I wonder about these things automatically at this point.
I believe this “training” made it natural for me to figure out a way to hand-dye each and every garment in this collection. I think it's pretty amazing what a different color can do for these pieces, and depending on the individual fabric, style, and details, I choose every color specially for each dress. Now I work with a commercial dye house in Los Angeles that handles the entire hand-dyeing process for me.
I am so pleased to say that the entire collection is available in person at the Standard & Strange Santa Fe location. I will be updating the online shop as soon as possible <3
Thank you. Can’t wait to see where this ride takes us.
